DENVER SPEAKERS CORNER MOVES TO WINTER QUARTERS
You are invited to reflect on Martin Luther King and Ben Franklin on their birthdays.

Denver--Denver Speakers Corner will meet this Sunday, January 17  at 4 p.m. Panera Bread, 13th & Grant in Denver. Democrats, Republicans, and others are invited to take a turn on the soap box to address the question: Would Martin Luther King or Ben Franklin affiliate as a Republican or Democrat in 2010? More information at http://meetup.com/Denver-Speakers-Corner or call (303)861-1447

“The deadline for affiliating with a political party in Colorado to participate in their caucus this year is January 19. With the open seats for U.S. Senate and Governor it is important that local media publicize this deadline, and we hope this event helps. The state chairs of the Republicans, Democrats, and the League of Women Voters have been invited, and we hope average citizens also attend to take a turn on the soap box,” said Phil Perington announcing the event. Perington is former State Chair of Colorado Democrats and one of the founders of Save the Caucus which defeated Amendment 29 in 2002 which would have killed the caucus-assembly process for nominating to the primary ballot in Colorado.

Martin Luther King was born January 15, 1929. Ben Franklin was born January 17, 1706.

Since 1912 Colorado has gathered in neighborhood meetings across the state every two years for the purpose of nominating candidates to the primary ballot. Information about the system is now available on the new Colorado Secretary of State website page at http://www.sos.state.co.us/pubs/elections/vote/PoliticalPartyCaucusInfo.pdf

Denver Speakers Corner has met each Sunday in Civic Center Park for nearly 2 years. The decision was made recently to move the meeting indoors to Panera Bread, 13th & Grant for the winter months.
