Malcolm Knowles, the originator of the method called it Self-Directed Education. Now there seems to be an organized effort to make us call it Self-Direct Education. The effort seems to be failing. So please Wikipedia, allow a Self-Directed Learning article, stop directing inquiries to Autodydact, that's something else. For more about Self-Direct Learning see the 1975 book from Malcolm Knowles with that title, "a Guide for Learners and Teachers."
