“You can’t. You can never be sure. You die without knowing.” Poet John Berryman's answer to poet W.S. Merwin's question "how do I know if I've written a good poem" when they were both students at Princeton. Merwin was born on this date in 1927. http://writersalmanac.publicradio.org/

Is this true for all writing? Will we ever know the true value of a Twitter or a blog post in this life?

  1. That's an excellent question, especially when you consider the amazing number of folks writing blogs. If you are using Word Press you can see how many people visit. You can also use a tool to see how many people link to your writing.

But those just tell you how many are looking at it today. As to the long term question of whether you've written material for the ages, maybe blogs are only for now.
