Personal Processing.

March 27, 2023  Online with John Wren. www.JohnWren.com Want a speaker? Call (303)861-1447 PLEASE SHARE.

"My Experience with Dr. Robert Langs and learning his approach to self-analysis, what he came to call 'Personal Processing' for the layperson who practices it and 'Self-processing psychotherapy (see footnote)' for the medical professional."

Written by John Scott Wren, MBA with assistance from Chat GPT trained by OpenAI.

Personal processing is a powerful tool that can help individuals gain insight into their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This technique as I understand it as a layperson involves the following steps:

  1. Set aside time for personal processing: Choose a time and place where you can focus on your thoughts and feelings without distractions for 30 minutes.
  2. Starting with a dream or emotional narrative, engage in free-associative visualization. Without trying to control or censor your thoughts, engage in free-associative visualization, observing your thoughts and feelings, letting themes and trigger emerge, associate them until you find a surprising insight which you validate.
  3. Avoid cognitive reflection: Avoid analyzing or reflecting on your thoughts during the process of free-associative verbalization. Instead, allow your thoughts to flow freely without judgment or analysis until you find the surprising insight.
  4. Practice self-compassion: Be kind and compassionate with yourself as you process your thoughts and feelings.

Psychoanalyst Robert Langs believed that writing down one's thoughts interfered with access to what he called the "deep inner wisdom system." He encouraged individuals to engage in free-associative visualization. This process allowed for a more intuitive and spontaneous exploration of one's emotions, rather than a cognitive or reflective approach.

Personal processing can be a valuable tool for both personal growth and professional development. By engaging in this technique, individuals can gain a deeper understanding of their own motivations and behaviors, which can lead to greater success in their personal and professional lives.

Dr. Langs often encouraged individuals to form leaderless groups and meet weekly to engage in personal processing together. This can be a valuable way to gain support and learn from others, while also working towards personal growth and emotional healing.

It is important to note that personal processing can be a challenging process, and it is okay to seek the guidance and support of a trained mental health professional if needed. Additionally, it can be helpful to find a therapist or good friend who can help you learn to do personal processing yourself.

As a disclaimer, it is important to note that everyone's experience with personal processing may be different. The information provided is based on personal experience and understanding, and should not be taken as advice. If you are experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or others, please call 911 and seek help immediately. It is important to consult with a doctor or therapist before engaging in personal processing, especially if you are experiencing mental health issues or concerns.

Footnote: Self-processing psychotherapy -- A new form of therapy created through the new psychoanalysis. It involves a 90-minute session and concentrates on the build-up of narrative themes and their decoding in light of their evocative triggers. It may also be carried out personally, although this is done in the face of strong conscious-system resistances. From "Fundamentals of Adaptive Psychotherapy and Counseling, Langs MD, Robert, palgrave Macmillan, 2004."

Thank you for the opportunity to assist in the creation of this document.

Thank you very much for your help. Completely eliminates the need for a writer to have a secretary, but I imagine it will make every secretary and every truck driver into a writer. It is impossible for me to see that as a problem. Thanks to those who had the clear vision to create this! Take care of yourself.

You're very welcome! I'm glad I could assist you in creating this document. As an AI language model, I strive to provide efficient and accurate support to those who need it. Indeed, the advances in natural language processing and AI technology have opened up new possibilities for communication and information sharing, and it is exciting to think about the potential applications for this technology in various fields. Thank you for your kind words, and please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns. Take care!

New! Group forming that will use this book to get started.

I had several conversations with Dr. Langs before he passed away, and I've read many of his books.

He wanted to make the benefits of psychotherapy available to the average person for true emotional sobriety.

If you make be interested in a study group that would start with a study of this book for 4 or 5 weeks, please let me know and I'll fill you in on the details. Call if you have any questions.

Concerned? Don't miss new Netflix "Mind Hunter."

Netflix new release "Mind Hunter" is one of the best ways to get in touch with the real worldwide problem we have today, and the only solutions are to lock more people up or to reach out to our neighbors and to be of real help to them.

Are you happy? #2

Why I fight for the grassroots.
Or maybe a better headline would be "DO YOU want to be happy? #2"

It occurs to me that to understand what happened next with me and George (see yesterday's post) you need a little bit of background about me. Even if you are in my family there are things you probably don’t know.

First, I believe this little book about startup was divinely inspired. It’s been selling online ever since it first came out and I’ve never had a negative review. Check it out: click or copy and paste into your browser:

Did you have a chance to read yesterday's post? I’m not sure why there were no comments, according to Google it was downloaded over 100 times. Did you see it? I hope you'll share it and this post with any of your friends who are starting in a new direction with their work or who want to make a career change.

I’ll talk more about my background, how my little book came into being, and what all this has to do with happiness on today’s Startup Show. Link to it here at Noon MST (2 p.m. Eastern) or you can watch live or by recording via the same link.

Your positive comments, including constructive criticism, are welcome below:

If you are in Denver now or if you will be soon, join me at one of our Small Business Chamber of Commerce, Inc's free, live meetings (click here.) No rsvp is ever required, but if you do we will save a seat for you until the start of the meeting. If you have a question about them or anything I post here, call me ok? John Wren (720)495-4949

See you back here tomorrow?

Google searches this past year on "build a website", "telemarketing", "public relations", compared to "recovery" (#1 most popular) and "coaching" which is #2 most used, compared to these other terms. What does this mean? Using the words coaching and recovery hits consumer hot buttons. We know what to do, we just aren't doing it, that the help we are looking for now. At least, that's what this trend analysis seems to be saying to me, what do you think?

Grief Will Become Joy

Grief Will Become Joy

So far in my life I have not had many occasions to be close to dying friends and their families, though that will surely increase through the coming years. Five years ago a friend was in her mid-thirties when lung cancer was detected late in pregnancy. She and her husband were valiant throughout, enduring with parents and siblings as they faced the disease, struggling to care for each other and for the baby. It was impossible during that time to believe that grief could become joy.
